Solar Flares

I am contributing this poem to Poetry Thursday's NaPoWriMo prompt - Blaze.

Solar plexus swells and radiates.
A throbbing, scorching sun,
Burns the centre of my being.
Intense.
I am left,
Feeling blistered and tender.
Oh! The pain.....
Had I known before,
I would have protected my heart
Under a hat;
Wrapped my soul
In dark glasses
And drunk a cocktail
Of Mississippi Moonshine and SPF15 Plus.
One can never be too sun smart.

Very interesting take on blaze. The if only of love.

It really blazes on.

I can't help but think that too much protection is just as bad? I think that blaze of feeling is worth the occasional burn.

Oh, I loved this, strauss. Love can be so intense. I love the image of wrapping your soul in dark glasses...

This is fun but also sad, I can relate to it but also agree with Rose, you don't want too much protection ...

You've chosen a great image to illustrate: "I would have protected my heart/ Under a hat;" was delightful. I like the tone.

"One can never be too sun smart." Wonderful metaphoric poetry.

Seriously, Strauss, this one belongs in The New Yorker.

What brilliant imagery and metaphor.
